Bishkek, March 15, 2024. /Kabar/. Minister of Internal Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic Ulan Niyazbekov takes part in the high-level segment of the 67th session of the UN Commission on Narcotic Drugs, held in Vienna.
According to the ministry, during the event the current state and further steps in strengthening international cooperation in the fight against the drug threat are discussed, and the role of Central Asia in countering the spread of synthetic drugs is highlighted.
In 2024, the Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND) is conducting a mid-term review to assess the implementation of all international drug policy commitments. Following the two-day high-level segment (14 and 15 March 2024) dedicated to the mid-term review, a five-day regular session will be held.
Niyazbekov noted that as a result of painstaking work, to date, the legislation of Kyrgyzstan in the field of drug control is fully consistent with international law, and also takes into account the recommendations of relevant international institutions.
“Despite the difficult drug situation, we managed to reduce the dynamics of drug use in the population by strengthening prevention. Thus, the number of visits to narcological institutions of the Ministry of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic over the past five years has had a steady downward trend,” said Ulan Niyazbekov.
In conclusion, the Kyrgyz minister expressed his readiness to promote interaction processes at the global, regional and national levels.
It should be noted that during the visit, a number of bilateral meetings are planned with the leadership of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime, the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs and business circles.
