Kyrgyzstan participates in first meeting of secretaries of security councils of Central Asian countries

Bishkek, May 17, 2024. /Kabar/. Secretary of the Security Council of the Kyrgyz Republic Marat Imankulov took part in the first meeting of the secretaries of the security councils of the Central Asian states in Astana.

During the meeting, issues of the state and prospects of cooperation between the countries of the region in the areas of water and energy, food, transport security and the development of transport and logistics infrastructure were discussed.

In his speech, Marat Imankulov noted that the problems of water supply to the population and sectors of the economy, as well as the quality of fresh water, the efficiency of supplying the required volumes of irrigation water currently play such an important role in the life of the states of Central Asia that neglecting them can lead to large costs, both in economics and in solving social issues.

Against the backdrop of water shortages, the situation in energy, food and sanitary and epidemiological security is becoming more complicated.

In turn, negative trends in the economy, energy, and social life create conditions for new waves of uncontrolled migration, which together provoke crisis situations in the security sphere.

Due to climatic reasons, the Kyrgyz Republic, despite the fact that it is at the origins of the formation of water resources, itself began to experience difficulties. However, despite certain damage to the country, Kyrgyzstan unconditionally fulfills one hundred percent all international agreements on providing its neighbors with water.

Regarding the issue of ensuring transport security, Marat Imankulov noted that stable transport connectivity between the CAR states should be ensured on a mutually beneficial, non-discriminatory basis, both within the framework of bilateral cooperation and on the basis of existing agreements and obligations in the format of integration associations - the EAEU and the SCO.

Following the first meeting, a corresponding protocol was agreed upon, in which the parties noted the commonality of approaches to addressing the issues of water, energy and food security, as well as transport security in the context of the development of transport and logistics infrastructure in the region.

Before the meeting, the heads of delegations were received by President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.

During the visit, Marat Imankulov laid flowers at the monument to Manas the Magnanimous, opened on April 19 by the presidents of Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan.
