Bishkek, Jan.14, 2025. /Kabar/. The Ministry of Agriculture of Kyrgyzstan submitted for public discussion the draft resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers “On the introduction of a temporary ban on the export of mineral fertilizers from the Kyrgyz Republic outside the customs territory of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).
According to the document, Kyrgyzstan's annual demand for mineral fertilizers is 286.7 thousand tons.
Given that Kyrgyzstan does not have its own production of mineral fertilizers, the annual supply of mineral fertilizers is only 45-55% of the total need.
The annual quota allocated by Uzbekistan is 100 thousand tons, including 60 thousand tons for the spring-summer season and 40 thousand tons for the autumn-winter period.
In order to carry out spring field work and provide agriculture with mineral fertilizers in a timely manner, the strategic reserve at the time of sowing should be at least 45- 50 thousand tons.
Such a schedule of fertilizer supply should provide farmers with fertilizers in full, but in fact, by the time of the beginning of spring field work, there is a deficit of fertilizers in the southern regions of the Kyrgyz Republic, caused by their re-export to other countries.
Lack of available fertilizers for domestic agricultural producers may lead to a decrease in the competitiveness of agricultural products, deterioration of food security and increased dependence on imported supplies.
The introduction of a ban on the export of mineral fertilizers is a strategically important decision aimed at protecting national interests, supporting domestic agriculture and ensuring the stable development of the agro-industrial complex.
