Kyrgyzstan plans to include Tortkul Reservoir in objects of strategic importance

Bishkek, Feb. 8, 2021. / Kabar /. The Tortkul Reservoir located in Batken Oblast of Kyrgyzstan is planned to be included in the list of objects of strategic importance, prime Minister of the republic Ulukbek Maripov said in his video message.

According to him, the proposal to include the reservoir in the objects of strategic importance will be made at the next meeting of the Security Council of the Kyrgyz Republic.

The Tortkul Reservoir with the volume of 90 million cubic meters of water was built in 1972 on the territory of Batken Oblast.

Today, the reservoir provides irrigation water to more than 11,000 hectares of arable land in Batken region and Batken town. The Tortkul Reservoir is of strategic importance not only for Batken Oblast, but also for the country as a whole.
