Bishkek, March 29, 2022 / Kabar /. This year it is planned to increase the area of arable land by 6 thousand hectares, Deputy Minister of Agriculture Azamat Mukashev told during a press conference at Kabar Agency.
According to his data, the total arable area in Kyrgyzstan is 1 million 226 thousand hectares of land.
“The main emphasis will be placed on grain and fodder crops - wheat, corn, barley, as well as perennial grasses. In addition, as part of capacity building, attention will be paid to the cultivation of sugar beet and the production of a raw material base for oilseed processing,” Mukashev said.
He added that last year, due to drought, the area of sugar beet decreased to 9.5 thousand hectares, this year it is planned to bring it to 14.5 thousand hectares of land.
In addition, to date, sowing units of seeds on 12.5 thousand hectares have been financed.
“For complete food self-sufficiency, we need 44-45 thousand hectares of oilseeds, today we are reaching the level of 50%. The work continues,” the deputy minister said.
He also stressed that the indicators of the volume of vegetable cultivation still remain at the level of last year, however, this year it is planned to increase the cultivation of potatoes to 77 thousand hectares, in 2021 the area amounted to 72 thousand hectares.
