Bishkek, Feb.21, 2020. /Kabar/. There were no massive blackout or major accidents during 2019-2020 heat deficit period, Chairman of the Board of the National Energy Holding of the Kyrgyz Republic Aitmamat Nazarov said at the press conference at Kabar News Agency.
The chairman added the country did not import electricity last year.
"In 2020 it is planned to install 300 thousand smart meters, so far only 215 thousand of such meters have been installed, but now we plan to put 300 thousand meters only for a year.
We plan to provide all subscribers with such counters. There is an agreement on the organization of an enterprise to produce smart meters, but because of the outbreak of coronavirus work has slowed down. Perhaps, when everything subsides, the work will resume," Nazarov said.
There are 1 million 450 thousand subscribers in Kyrgyzstan. Only 215 thousand of them are provided with smart meters.
Smart meters allow power companies to remotely disconnect subscribers for late payments.
