The registration procedure for communication devices will be free in Kyrgyzstan, Tatiana Klochkova, the head of the Department of development of electric and postal communications of the Ministry of Digital Development (MDD) said during a press conference at Kabar News Agency.
She noted that the bill on the cell phone registration has not yet been adopted, it is under public discussion.
"We have put up for public discussion an initiative to identify communication devices and recognition of international identifiers of mobile communication devices, as well as communication devices used for data transmission, operated or imported into the territory of Kyrgyzstan in terms of the transfer of functions to the state body. As for the raised wave on the cost of registration, there is no such norm in the bill, and we would like to inform the public that they are not worried,” Klochkova added.
Head of the Legal Support Department of the Digital Development Ministry Nurlan Alaev said that this document is only a draft law and the final version of the bill is still unknown because only after the process of receiving comments and suggestions a draft law will be formed.
Earlier, it was reported in the media that there would be a fee for the registration of cell phones.
The Ministry of Digital Economy reported that the registration will reduce the influx of low-quality devices that are unsafe for health due to increased radiation.
This initiative will more effectively and transparently reduce the volume of smuggled products of illegal imports, reduce cases of tax evasion, to encourage conscientious businessmen-importers.
Despite all the measures taken by the state, the lion's share of communications equipment enters the territory of the republic by smuggling, bypassing the mandatory stage of customs clearance, import and certification procedures, payment of tax payments, some of the comprehended products are even counterfeit.
