About 70 million trees are planned to be planted in Kyrgyzstan until 2030 under the Decree "On Declaring 2022 the Year of Mountain Ecosystems Protection and Climate Sustainability", Minister of Natural Resources, Ecology and Technical Supervision of the republic Dinara Kutmanova said during a press conference at Kabar News Agency.
She noted that the above-mentioned decree aims to mobilize all forces to adapt to climate change.
"Not only state and executive bodies, but also citizens, it is necessary to target the whole society to awareness and take measures, to make their own contribution to adaptation. So, one of them can be the planting of tree saplings," the minister said.
Kutmanova also explained that the Natural Resources Ministry is tasked to develop and approve the Roadmap for the Year of Mountain Ecosystems Protection and Climate Resilience by March 1, 2022.
"Thus, one of the significant areas of the map is the "Green Kyrgyzstan" program. Within its framework, it is planned to plant up to 70 million tree seedlings by 2030. At present, the ministry is already working to determine the number and provision of seedlings and to attract donor funds, as well as to determine the place for planting," Kutmanova pointed out.
In addition, she noted that another important aspect in reducing greenhouse gas emissions is clean energy.
"We have a large hydro potential, but we do not use it. Last year President Sadyr Zhaparov announced that Kyrgyzstan intends to build about 200 mini hydropower plants, which will later help to solve the problem of smog,” the minister summed up.
$10 billion is allocated for implementation of the road map, of which $3 billion - from the republican budget and $7 billion – from international climate organizations.
