Kyrgyzstan produces only 3% of medicines, remaining 97% imported from abroad

Bishkek, April 14, 2022 . / Kabar /. The volume of domestic production of drugs is 3%, the remaining 97% are imported into the country from more than 30 countries, Deputy Director of the Department of Medicines and Medical Products under the Ministry of Health of Kyrgyzstan Kanat Bekboev said.

He added that last year the country imported drugs worth KGS 15.5 billion.

"The import of medical products amounted to KGS 3 billion 937 million. In total, imports of drugs and medical products in 2021 amounted to KGS 19 billion 493 million. In the first quarter of 2022, the volume of imports was KGS 7 billion 118 million, of which KGS 4 billion 985 million of drugs and KGS 2 billion 132 million medical products,” Bekboev said.

The representative of the Kyrgyz Health Ministry noted that in 2021 the main supplier of drugs was Russia, the share of imports was 15%, followed by India - 12%, Germany - 11%, Turkey - 9%, Slovenia - 9%, followed by Poland, Ukraine and Belarus.

"This year, the leader in the supply of drugs is Turkey, Russia with 9% is in second place, then India - 8%, followed by Slovenia, Hungary, France and Ukraine," he informed.
