Bishkek, June 24 / Kabar /. Kyrgyzstan proposed to set up a military base in Batken on the border with Tajikistan, rather than strengthening the existing base in Kant, President of Kyrgyzstan Almazbek Atambayev said at a press conference following the state visit to Russia.

He said that, when the government proposed to increase the number of military in Kant, the Kyrgyz authorities were against it.

"But I said that if they care about the security of our country, then there is no need to strengthen Kant. It's better to strengthen the border with Tajikistan," he said. The head of state said that the situation in Afghanistan is complicated, and the Taliban and ISIL are strengthening their influence there.

"We said that we do not mind if the base in Kant is modernized, but there is no need to increase the number of military forces," Atambayev added.
