Bishkek, Oct. 25, 2023 . / Kabar / . Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan Akylbek Zhaparov proposed to create economic development belts around the border zones.
During an extended format talks with Premier of the State Council of China Li Qiang Akylbek Zhaparov noted that it will be possible to do through the opening of international trade centers with the model of duty-free border trade and comprehensive bonded zones.
In this context, the head of the Cabinet also proposed to open veterinary and phytosanitary laboratories on the Kyrgyz-Chinese state border in order to increase exports of domestic agricultural products to the Chinese market.
Akylbek Zhaparov also pointed out that the full functioning of Torugart and Irkeshtam checkpoints is the main factor for further increase in mutual trade between the two countries and proposed to consider the possibility of repair work to improve the roadway to the Kyrgyz village of Nura at the Irkeshtam checkpoint at 5 km and to the Torugart checkpoint at 7.5 km.
In addition, in order to ensure uninterrupted operation of the above checkpoints and increase their cargo throughput, the Kyrgyz side proposed to switch to a daily and round-the-clock operation of the checkpoints.
In conclusion, the head of the Cabinet of Ministers expressed readiness for closer cooperation and joint efforts to open a new Bedel checkpoint on the Kyrgyz-Chinese border and the construction of the Barskoon- Uchturfan - Aksu road.
In turn, Li Qiang expressed readiness to practically promote the project on the construction of a new checkpoint and to take measures to increase the capacity of the Torugart and Irkeshtam checkpoints.
