Bishkek, Aug. 28, 2024 /Kabar/. The Ministry of Culture, Information, Sports and Youth Policy of Kyrgyzstan has proposed amending the Code of the Kyrgyz Republic on Offenses, which provides for a fine for disseminating false information using the media, on the Internet and social networks.
The corresponding bill has been submitted for public discussion.
The amendment is proposed in order to ensure the protection of public interests, the protection of the rights and freedoms of citizens, and information security.
False information can cause panic, spread disinformation, provoke unrest and disrupt public order. For example, false reports of terrorist attacks or epidemics can lead to mass unrest and pose a threat to people's lives.
The ministry believes that lies on the Internet can be used as a means of propaganda and disinformation, including in international conflicts.
The new law will reduce the threat of information attacks and ensure the protection of the information space from external influence. It will promote the dissemination of reliable information and raise public awareness of the need for critical thinking when consuming Internet content.
For violation of the article, it is proposed to introduce a fine of 100 thousand soms for individuals and 200 thousand soms for legal entities.
