Bishkek, Aug. 19, 2020 / Kabar /. The Ministry of Transport and Roads of the Kyrgyz Republic submits for public discussion a draft government decree on the construction of the Balykchy-Kochkor-Kara-Keche railway.
In explanatory notes Kyrgyz Temir Zholu State Enterprise is taking the initiative to start in 2020 the construction of a railway along the Balykchy-Kochkor-Kara-Keche route by mobilizing internal resources and funds from the Kyrgyz railway.
Within the framework of the project, it is planned to build a railway with a length of 186 km: Balykchy – Kochkor - 63 km and Kochkor - Kara-Keche -123 km.
This project is of great socio-economic importance, first of all, due to the creation of the least costly route for transporting coal during the development of the Kara-Keche brown coal field to provide the population and the thermal power station of Bishkek with coal in the autumn-winter period.
To date, coal from the Kara-Keche deposit is transported by road to the Balykchy station with further transportation by rail to Bishkek and other settlements in the north of the republic.
Transportation of coal by road leads to a significant increase in the cost of coal and premature destruction of the road.
In addition, coal dust carried by constant winds in the region of Balykchy causes corresponding damage to the ecosystem of the lake and lakeside territories.
It is important to note the natural decrease in the mass of coal for each transshipment.
In this regard, the construction of a railway will bring both economic benefits and ensure the environmental safety of the region.
