The consequences of the largest earthquake in Afghanistan, which occurred on October 7, 2023, claimed thousands of lives and caused enormous suffering to the Afghan people. Kyrgyzstan sympathizes with the consequences of the devastating earthquake and is taking concrete steps to provide real assistance, providing them with all possible assistance, providing them with the necessary food.
The head of Kyrgyzstan called on the international community to be united and support the people of Afghanistan affected by the powerful earthquake.
On September 20, 2023, President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Zhaparov, during a speech at the 78th session of the UN General Assembly, stated that Kyrgyzstan is interested in a peaceful, stable and prosperous Afghanistan. Also on November 9 last year, at the summit of the heads of the ECO member countries in Tashkent and in Minsk at the meeting of the heads of the CSTO member states, Sadyr Zaparov called on the international community to continue providing humanitarian and economic assistance to the Afghan people.
Thus, on behalf of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic, 111 tons of humanitarian aid were sent to the population of Afghanistan.
On November 29, 2023, a convoy of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Kyrgyz Republic with a cargo of humanitarian aid departed from the city of Osh, to Afghanistan, across the border of Uzbekistan, led by Deputy Minister of Emergency Situations of the Kyrgyz Republic Urmatbek Shamyrkanov.
11 trucks with 75 tons of flour, 20 tons of sugar, 5 tons of sunflower oil, 500 beds, the same number of warm blankets and mattresses, and also, in the amount of one million soms, and these are winter clothes, food and personal hygiene products, the purchase of which was financed by the International civil defense organization, it will take two days to get to the Uzbek-Afghan border. It should be noted that the ministers of emergency situations of the two countries decided in advance the issues of delivery of humanitarian aid that may arise when crossing the border with Afghanistan through the territory of Uzbekistan.
On October 7 last year, as a result of a strong earthquake in the province of Herat, located near the borders of Iran and Turkmenistan, more than two thousand people died, ten thousand were injured and thousands of houses became unusable.
