Bishkek, Mar. 14, 2019. /Kabar/. Kyrgyz President Sooronbay Jeenbekov signed the Law of the Kyrgyz Republic on Ratification of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities adopted by the General Assembly of the United Nations on December 13, 2006 and signed on September 21, 2011, the press service of the President’s Office of the Kyrgyz Republic reported.
The law was passed by the Parliament on February 7, 2019.
The goal of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities is to promote, protect and ensure the full and equal enjoyment of all human rights and fundamental freedoms by persons with disabilities, as well as to promote respect for their inherent dignity.
The Kyrgyz Republic became a party to the Convention on September 21, 2011 within the framework of the work of the 66th session of the UN General Assembly, expressing its intention to take the necessary measures to implement the Convention in the future.
In accordance with the adopted law, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic should deposit an instrument of ratification of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities with the depositary, the UN Secretary General.
The law comes into force ten days after the date of official publication.
