Bishkek, March 4, 2022 . / Kabar /. Kyrgyzstan has reaffirmed its support for the UN Counter-Terrorism Strategy, the press service of the republic’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported.
The Tashkent city hosted on Friday a meeting between Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Kyrgyzstan Azizbek Madmarov and UN Under-Secretary-General, head of the UN Counter-Terrorism Office Vladimir Voronkov.
The main purpose of the meeting was to discuss the implementation of counterterrorism programs in the Kyrgyz Republic, as well as the possible impact of events in Afghanistan on security in Central Asia.
The head of the Kyrgyz delegation reaffirmed Kyrgyzstan's support for the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy and also noted interest in enhancing interaction with the UN Counter-Terrorism Office on attracting technical and expert assistance to the competent authorities of Kyrgyzstan to counter the threats of terrorism and extremism.
Madmarov conveyed a letter of gratitude from Kyrgyz Foreign Minister Ruslan Kazakbaev addressed to Voronkov for his personal support of the implementation of UN Counter-Terrorism Office programs and projects in republic, productive activities of Murad Tangiev, Regional Coordinator for Central Asia based in Bishkek, as well as proposals of the Kyrgyz side on the possibility of expanding the mandate of the UN Counter-Terrorism Office representative in Central Asia.
In turn, Vladimir Voronkov praised the level of cooperation between UN Counter-Terrorism Office and Kyrgyzstan on counter-terrorism issues, and confirmed the Office's readiness to continue close contacts on issues of further cooperation between the Office and Kyrgyzstan.
