Bishkek, March 24, 2022. / Kabar /. Kyrgyzstan received 150 freezers and 50 combination refrigerators from UNICEF as part of the Humanitarian Action for Children (HAC) program, the press service of the Ministry of Health of Kyrgyzstan said.
The new equipment will be installed in health care organizations throughout the country to ensure the safe storage of vaccines.
Head of the Public Health Department of the Health Ministry Ainura Akmatova, Education and Health Manager at UNICEF Tomoya Sonoda and Director of the Republican Immunoprophylaxis Center Gulbara Ishenapysova took part in the ceremony of handing over the refrigeration equipment.
In her speech, Ainura Akmatova thanked UNICEF Kyrgyzstan for its assistance in combating the COVID-19 pandemic and improving public health in the country.
“Maintaining the correct temperature regime during the storage and transportation of vaccines is one of the priorities of mass vaccination. These cold units are combined to maintain a plus and minus temperature regime. We express our gratitude to all partners who contribute to the fight against coronavirus infection," the head of the Public Health Department of the Kyrgyz Health Ministry said.
UNICEF is supporting the Government in the fight against COVID-19 by providing COVID-19 vaccines through the COVAX initiative, purchasing cold chain equipment to store vaccines, providing front-line health workers with essential supplies, and supporting the overall socio-economic response to ensure that every child can survive and develop.
"The new equipment will increase the Health's Ministry’s capacity to ensure proper vaccine management and quality immunization services for the people of Kyrgyzstan. UNICEF will continue to support the Government of Kyrgyzstan in providing timely and safe vaccines," Education and Health Manager at UNICEF Tomoya Sonoda noted.
At the beginning of this year, 46 freezers and 35 combination refrigerators arrived in the country as part of the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization's (GAVI) Cold Chain Equipment Optimization Platform (CCEP) project and have now been delivered to health organizations in all regions of the country.
