Kyrgyzstan regulates prices for sugar and sunflower oil on stock market

During a press conference at Kabar News Agency on Friday, Director of the State Agency for Antimonopoly Regulation under Kyrgyzstan’s Ministry of Economic Development and Trade Keneshbai Tailakov told about the price policy for granulated sugar and sunflower oil in the republic.

He noted that the rise in prices of these goods is connected with the increase in prices on the stock market around the world.

"Currently, an average cost of granulated sugar in Kyrgyzstan is KGS 68 (about USD 0,8) per kg. In Kyrgyzstan’s market, 50% of sugar is domestically produced (Kaindy-Kan sugar factory) and 50% - imported.

In turn, sunflower oil in the country on average costs KGS 155 (about USD 1,8). 90% of imported oil and 10% of brewers from Kyrgyzstan reach the domestic counters in the republic,” Tailakov added.

Tailakov also compared sugar and oil prices in Kyrgyzstan and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) member countries.

Thus, sugar prices in EAEU member countries are as follows (in KGS): Kazakhstan – KGS 62, Uzbekistan – KGS 68, Russia – KGS 60, Belarus – KGS 73, Armenia – KGS 75 and Tajikistan – KGS 110.

Prices for sunflower oil (in KGS): Kazakhstan – KGS 155, Uzbekistan – KGS 189, Russia – KGS 195, Armenia – KGS 191, Belarus – KGS 162 and Tajikistan – KGS 220.

"Taking into account the situation on the international exchange, as well as the global and domestic crisis, sugar and oil prices in the country are stable," the head of the Antimonopoly Regulation Agency said.

In May 2021 the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan introduced state regulation of sugar and sunflower oil prices until August 2021.
