Bishkek, July 30, 2021 . / Kabar / . Kyrgyzstan remains a country of origin for human trafficking and transit, least of all a country of destination, First Deputy Minister of Health and Social Development of the republic Aliza Soltonbekova said at a press conference at Kabar News Agency.
She added the main destination countries are the UAE, Turkey, Russia, and Kazakhstan.
"In recent years, Kyrgyzstan has proven its commitment in preventing and combating human trafficking, this is evidenced by the return after three years of the Kyrgyz Republic to the second group in the annual report of the U.S. Department of State. The republic has accumulated some experience in providing assistance to victims of human trafficking both through projects of international organizations and within the framework of the state social order," she said.
Soltonbekova said at present temporary shelter, as well as rehabilitation, legal and social assistance are provided to persons who suffered from violence, from human trafficking.
The official noted the Ministry of Health and Social Development will continue initiatives and activities, together with all partners and civil society to combat human trafficking.
"We understand that the problem of combating this type of crime must continue, taking into account new trends, the use of new technologies and types of exploitation, as well as improving the system of criminal prosecution of criminals," the first deputy minister concluded.
In 2013, the UN General Assembly proclaimed July 30 as the World Day to Combat Trafficking in Persons. The main purpose of this day is to raise awareness about the situation of victims of human trafficking, aimed at promoting and protecting their rights.
