Kyrgyzstan sees 30% decrease in freight transport volume compared to 2019

For the transport of goods, algorithms have been developed for crossing checkpoints at borders, and green corridors for the transport of perishable goods have also been created, Minister of Transport and Roads of Kyrgyzstan Janat Beishenov told during a briefing Thursday.

According to him, despite the measures taken, since the beginning of the year, the volume of transport decreased by 476 thousand tons, or 30% compared to the same period last year.

"Carriage with China through the Irkeshtam checkpoint has been resumed since Apr. 16, negotiations on the opening of the Torugart checkpoint are currently underway. The opening is expected in the coming days," the minister said.

In order to preserve roads from overload, the issue of transition to the service model of weight control systems - the creation of an automatic system of weight control is being considered.

"Together with the firms of cargo carriers it was provided assistance to the State Material Reserve of the Kyrgyz Republic – 100 tons of flour was delivered to the south of the country. Besides, in order to prevent import and spread coronavirus cases, work was organized to accompany trucks from checkpoints located at the state border of Kyrgyzstan to their destination in the territory of the republic. From May 7 to June 15 this year, 10,360 trucks were accompanied,” Beishenov reported.
