Bishkek, Oct. 13, 2020. /Kabar/. 1,740 fires were recorded in Kyrgyzstan in first 9 months of 2020 (in 2019 - 3042), compared to last year, the number of fires decreased by 42.8%, the press service of the country’s Ministry of Emergency Situations said.
The fires killed 15 people (in 2019 - 35 people), 19 people were injured (in 2019 - 46 people).
It is noted that 43 lives were saved and material values worth KGS 2 billion 911 million 123 thousand were preserved. Out of total number of fires, 62.8% occurred in the residential sector.
"The main cause of fire is careless handling of electrical equipment, untimely cleaning of furnaces, failure to comply with fire safety rules. Most fires are registered in the residential sector," said Major Ashirbekov.
The largest number of fires were registered in Chui Oblast (458) and Bishkek (276), the least number in Osh (53) and Naryn Oblast (71).
