Kyrgyzstan sees growth in agricultural and industrial output despite pandemic

Bishkek, Aug. 20, 2020. /Kabar/. The main positive contribution to the Kyrgyz Republic's GDP growth in the first half of the year was made by agriculture.

It contributed 0.14 percentage points to GDP, with a real growth rate of 1.6%. And in the industrial sector - the enterprise on development of Kumtor deposit, whose contribution to the GDP made up 0,96 percentage points, with the real growth rate of 9,8 % due to the growth of production of basic metal, the share of which in the structure of the GDP production made up 14,2 %.

Almost all oblasts ensured the growth of gross agricultural output, except the city of Bishkek (98.6%):

All sown area occupied by agricultural crops for the harvest of 2020 made 1 223.6 thousand ha, which exceeds the level of 2019 by 6.9 thousand ha.

The total sown area of grain crops, including corn per grain (without legumes, rice and buckwheat) was 573.3 thousand ha or 20.9 thousand ha more than last year. Wheat sown areas were also increased by 7.9 thousand ha.

At the same time there was a decrease of potatoes sown areas (by 2.9 thousand ha), oilseeds (by 6.4 thousand ha), sugar beet (by 6.0 thousand ha), cotton (by 2.6 thousand ha), vegetables (by 0.5 thousand ha);

Real growth of industrial output for the reporting period was provided by economic entities of Issyk-Kul, Batken, Dzhalal-Abad and Talas Oblasts.

Other regions (Chui, Osh and Naryn and the cities of Bishkek and Osh) have developed negative dynamics.

The volume of market services decreased in almost all regions of the country due to application of unprecedented measures to curb the spread of coronavirus infection, where the free movement of people, goods, capital stopped and the decline in economic activity led to a significant decrease in demand.
