Bishkek, May 12, 2023. / Kabar /. A slight increase in the incidence of measles and rubella continues in Kyrgyzstan, the country’s Ministry of Health said.
According to data of the ministry, 286 cases of measles and 10 cases of rubella have been registered since the beginning of the year.
The main reason for the increase in the incidence is a decrease in the coverage of children and adults with routine immunization against measles and rubella. Most of the sick are vaccine refusers, the report said.
In addition, the ministry indicated that the COVID-19 pandemic has also led to a dangerous drop in immunization coverage, increasing the risk of a measles outbreak.
Thus, in 2021, coverage in the republic with the 1st dose of measles vaccine (MMR) was 93.3%, with the second dose - 96.9%.
In 2022, coverage in the republic with the 1st dose of COC was 94%, with the second dose - 94%.
According to data of the World Health Organization, the threat of the spread of measles remains worldwide. The cause of the outbreak is the COVID-19 pandemic and a decrease in the activity of preventive vaccinations against its background.
