Bishkek, Jan. 20, 2025. / Kabar /. On January 16, 2025, in Bratislava, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kyrgyz Republic to the Slovak Republic, with residence in Vienna, Tolendy Makeyev, held a meeting with the State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, Rastislav Chovanec.
During the meeting, the Ambassador of Kyrgyzstan noted that April 25, 2025, marks the 100th anniversary of the arrival of the first group of Czechoslovaks as part of the industrial cooperative "Interhelpo" in Kyrgyzstan, who contributed to the industrial development of the country. In this regard, a proposal was made to organize visits at the level of foreign ministers, holding political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, and arranging other joint events in both countries to commemorate this significant date, which received active support from the Slovak side.
Key areas of cooperation for the near future were also discussed, with particular attention paid to the development of political, trade, economic, investment, cultural, and humanitarian ties between the Kyrgyz Republic and the Slovak Republic, which would be achieved through holding joint business forums and establishing direct contacts between entrepreneurs of the two countries. Additionally, the discussion touched upon practical cooperation between the two countries in multilateral diplomacy within the framework of the UN, the European Union, and other international organizations, particularly in the context of support for Kyrgyzstan's candidacy for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council for 2027–2028, as well as addressing the acceleration of the ratification process by the Slovak Parliament for the Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation Agreement between the Kyrgyz Republic and the European Union, signed on June 25, 2024, in Brussels.
To further develop the legal framework for bilateral relations, the parties agreed to expedite the coordination and signing of several draft bilateral agreements, including agreements on the promotion and mutual protection of investments, the establishment of a visa-free regime for holders of diplomatic and service passports, and cooperation in the fields of pension provision and social insurance, among others.
