Kyrgyzstan stands for expansion of trade system

Bishkek, Dec. 14, 2017 / Kabar/. Kyrgyz Deputy Minister of Economy Eldar Abakirov delivered speech at the main plenary session of the WTO Ministerial Conference, which took place in Argentine capital of Buenos Aires on Dec. 10-13, the Kyrgyz Ministry of Economy's press service reported.

The WTO Ministerial Conference is the highest intergovernmental body of WTO, held every two years, where the ministers of trade/economy of all WTO members states get together.

Abakirov during his speech spoke in support of the principles of trade facilitation and urged countries to adhere to the policy of transparency. "The Kyrgyz Republic sets high hopes on the effectiveness of recently adopted Agreement on Trade Facilitation, which is very important for landlocked countries," said the Kyrgyz Deputy Minister.

The representative of Kyrgyzstan in WTO also stressed that currently there are restrictions in the sphere of trade - services. In this area, there are restrictions in the form of quotas, complicated procedures, setting limits for movement of services and other barriers. Abakirov urged other WTO member states to work on improving the situation in this area and resume negotiations on elimination of the above-mentioned barriers.

In conclusion Abakirov stressed that Kyrgyzstan supports the expansion of trade system, in particular the current process of Belarus' accession to WTO.
