Bishkek, March 31, 2022 / Kabar /. President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov today, March 31, gave a start to the construction of the Balykchy-Kochkor railway, his press service reported.

The president in his speech noted that with the construction of the Balykchy-Kochkor railway, the basis of a new railway junction is being created, which will be of great importance for the future of the country.

Kyrgyz Temir Zholu State Enterprise is currently working on the implementation of the project for the construction of the Balykchy-Kochkor-Kara-Keche railway (186 km). The first stage in the implementation of the Balykchy-Kochkor-Kara-Keche project is the construction of a section of the Balykchy-Kochkor railway with a length of 63 km.

The full completion and commissioning of the railway is expected by 2030. The project is currently being implemented at its own expense, without attracting additional investments.

It should be noted that this project is of great socio-economic importance, primarily due to the creation of the least expensive way of transporting coal during the development of the Kara-Keche brown coal deposit to provide the population and the thermal power plant of Bishkek with coal in the autumn-winter period.

The construction of a new railway will also solve a number of issues, such as the development of industrial enterprises, the promotion of the economy, the provision of transport links to the regions and the strengthening of the integrity of the country as a whole.

In honor of the start of the construction of the railway for the first time in the history of independence of Kyrgyzstan, President Sadyr Zhaparov laid the "Time Capsule" - a message to future generations.

He inspected the railway station of the city of Balykchy and the carriages, got acquainted with the progress of the construction of railway tracks.
