Kyrgyzstan submits presentation on pasture improvement and organics adoption at COP26

Baku, Nov. 20, 2024. /Kabar/. At the UN Climate Change Conference COP29, held in Baku on Nov. 19, meetings on the topic of agriculture were held.

The delegation of the Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture and Processing Industry of Kyrgyzstan was headed by Deputy Minister Mirbek Duysheyev.

In the national pavilion of Kyrgyzstan, the achievements and plans of the sector, as well as problems were outlined for the participants of the meetings from different countries and organizations.

Мirbek Duysheyev reported on three main directions of the ministry's work. The first is the development and improvement of unproductive pasture lands. Thus, for 20 years the area of conditionally clean pastures has decreased from 3.5 million hectares to 2.7 million hectares. At the moment 140 thousand hectares of pastures are degraded, 615 thousand hectares are considered unproductive. In total, pastures make up 9 million ha or 80% of the total area of agricultural lands.

To improve the cover, 372 thousand were temporarily preserved.

The second is the introduction of mechanized, drip and sprinkler irrigation systems to reduce water losses.

The deputy minister noted that drip and sprinkler irrigation systems were successfully implemented on an area of ​​14.5 thousand. 1810 subjects per ha. Annually, such systems are installed on an area of ​​1000 to 2500 hectares. Trainings are organized to train farmers in economical methods of irrigation. The third is the increase of areas for organic agriculture. The development of organic production opens up new markets and offers consumers healthy products.

Now the area of ​​land used for organic production is 67 thousand. ha or 5% of the total sown area.

The Organic EXPO-2024 was held for the first time in Kyrgyzstan.
