Kyrgyzstan supports appointment of current UN Secretary General Guterres for next term

At the meeting of the UN General Assembly on Friday, Kyrgyzstan supported the adoption of a resolution on the appointment of the current UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres (Portugal) for another five-year term of service from January 1, 2022 to December 31, 2026, the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic said.

According to the procedure, on June 8, 2021, the UN Security Council unanimously approved Antonio Guterres as its candidate for the post of UN Secretary General and recommended to the UN General Assembly to reappoint him for a second term. He was the only contender for this high post, which he has held since January 1, 2017.

In 2017, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres paid a visit to Kyrgyzstan.
