Bishkek, Sept.20, 2019. /Kabar/. Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan have reached a number of agreements following the talks, Kyrgyzstan’s Deputy Prime Minister Jenish Razakov said, the Government’s press service reported.
He noted that in accordance with the agreements between Prime Ministers of Kyrgyzstan Mukhammedkalyi Abylgaziev and Tajikistan Kokhir Rasulzoda, lengthy negotiations to address issues, related to the adoption of joint measures to de-escalate the situation in the Kyrgyz-Tajik section of the state border were held between the Government delegations of the two countries, headed by deputy prime ministers.
“There was a difficult but constructive dialogue. The sides made every effort to prevent the situation from escalating. A number of agreements have been reached with Tajikistan. A decision was taken on the complete withdrawal of military equipment and servicemen of both states from the border areas. The sides also agreed to stop construction work on the undescribed sections of the state border.
On behalf of the PMs of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, the Government delegations for border demarcation and delimitation will strengthen their efforts to resolve border issues. To date, all five checkpoints on the Kyrgyz-Tajik section of the state border, including Kulundu-Avtodorozhny, are operating normally, the border situation is stable, and evacuees from Maksat village have returned to their homes, and law enforcement officials are conducting joint patrols of the border areas,” Razakov said.
The situation on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border is under the special control of the Government, and the local authorities of the two countries are working to raise public awareness in order to ease tensions in the border areas.
On Sept. 16, a border incident with the use of weapons occurred on the Kyrgyz-Tajik section of the state border, the Tajik side was the first to use weapons, firing at the Kyrgyz border post Maksat from group weapons, and then the temporary Sai border post in Leilek region of Batken Oblast.
As a result of the conflict on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border, in total 14 people injured, including one soldier died on the spot.
