Bishkek, Jan.15, 2020 /Kabar/. A working meeting of Kyrgyzstan’s Deputy Prime Minister Jenish Razakov and his Tajik counterpart Azim Ibrohim took place yesterday, Jan. 14 at the Kyrgyz-Tajik state border near the Kyzyl-Bel (Kyrgyzstan) and Guliston (Tajikistan) checkpoints.
The meeting of the two countries' delegations was held as a result of negotiations between Presidents of Kyrgyzstan Sooronbay Jeenbekov and Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon.
According to the Kyrgyz Government’s press service, the talks were held with the participation of heads of power structures of the two countries to discuss a range of border issues and incidents that have occurred on the border sections of the Kyrgyz-Tajik state border.
The meeting participants exchanged views on intensifying the process of description of the Kyrgyz-Tajik state border project line crossing in the remaining sections.
At the end of the meeting, the relevant Protocol has been signed.
According to the Protocol:
- Legal working groups are instructed to submit by Feb. 15, 2020 an agreed position on the description of the crossing of the project line in sections of about 114 km;
- Topographic working groups are instructed to work out by Mar.1, 2020 agreed options for the interchange of equivalent and equal land plots between Batken region(Kyrgyzstan) and Isfara city (Tajikistan) on Samarkandek and Kok-Tash sections;
- The sides agreed to continue joint patrols on the Chorku - Ak-Sai - Vorukh and Kok-Tash - Ortoboz highways, as well as to take measures to install road traffic lights with surveillance cameras at the intersection of Isfara-Vorukh and Batken-Isfana highways;
- The local authorities of the border oblasts are instructed to strengthen awareness-raising work to prevent incidents, as well as to address the necessary issues of the population in border areas;
- To intensify comprehensive cooperation between the local authorities of Batken Oblasts and Sughd Region in order to develop social and economic and cultural-humanitarian relations, as well as to prevent conflict situations;
- The sides agreed to strictly follow the agreements regarding the coverage of the work of the commission on delimitation and demarcation of the Kyrgyz-Tajik state border, working groups and meetings on border issues in the media.
Today, Jan. 15, the delegation of the Kyrgyz Republic, headed by Deputy PM Jenish Razakov will hold a series of meetings with local residents to inform about the work being done with the Tajik side to resolve the situation on the border.
The Kyrgyz delegation included Deputy Prime Minister Jenish Razakov, Chairman of the State Committee for National Security Orozbek Opumbayev, Interior Minister Kashkar Dzhunushaliyev, Prosecutor General Otkurbek Dzhamshitov, Chairman of the State Border Service Ularbek Sharsheyev, Kyrgyz Ambassador to Tajikistan Dzhanysh Rustenbekov, Batken region chief and head of the Government Commission on Border Delimitation and Demarcation.
On Jan. 10, 2020 at 1 a.m., unknown citizens of Tajikistan threw stones at the cars of two Kyrgyz citizens on the Osh-Batken-Isfana highway.
At 2:40 a.m. shots were fired at the section of the Kok-Tash border post in the Dakhma area from the Tajik human settlements, which forced the Kyrgyz side to begin evacuating women and children.
The shots were stopped at 8 a.m.
On Jan.11 Presidents of Kyrgyzstan Sooronbay Jeenbekov and Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon held phone conversation to discuss the situation at the border.
Prime ministers of the two countries, as well their deputies also discussed issues related to joint measures to stabilize the situation at the Kyrgyz-Tajik section of the state border.
