Kyrgyzstan takes part in SCO non-governmental friendship forum

Bishkek, June 3, 2021. / Kabar /. Chairman of the People’s Assembly of Kyrgyzstan Abdygany Erkebaev took part on Thursday in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) non-governmental friendship forum via video conference.

Speaking at the forum Erkebaev greeted its participants on behalf of the People’s Assembly of Kyrgyzstan and on his own behalf.

The chairman of the People’s Assembly of Kyrgyzstan expressed gratitude to the people and government of China for the assistance rendering in fighting COVID-19.

“The friendship between the peoples of our countries has been strengthened for centuries since ancient times, our peoples have maintained close friendly and trade relations. The Great Silk Road has historically played and still plays the role of a connecting bridge of friendship,” he said.

The Kyrgyz official stressed that several dozen interstate agreements have been signed since Kyrgyzstan gained its independence.

“Now they have reached a high level in the spheres of politics, diplomacy, education, science and culture thanks to both bilateral interstate agreements and within the SCO,” he added.

Erkebaev also emphasized that Kyrgyzstan is an active participant in the joint construction of the One Belt, One Road project.

The chairman of the People’s Assembly of Kyrgyzstan wished all the forum participants happiness and prosperity to the people of great China.

The SCO non-governmental friendship forum is being held on June 2-4 in Wuhan, the capital of China’s Hubei Province.

The forum, organized by the Good-neighborliness, Friendship and Cooperation Commission of the SCO, the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, and Hubei Provincial People's Government, brought together SCO leaders, representatives of SCO states-members, ambassadors, experts, business representatives, scientists, journalists from SCO member states, observer countries and dialogue partners.

The participants of the forum discussed topics such as think tank exchanges, sister city cooperation, health, rural development and poverty reduction, high-quality connectivity, and new media training.

Following the forum all the SCO member-states signed the Wuhan Initiative of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Forum on People-to-People Friendship.
