Kyrgyzstan to buy electricity from Turkmenistan

Bishkek, Aug. 11, 2021 . / Kabar / . Kyrgyzstan will buy electricity from Turkmenistan. The relevant contract was signed by Kyrgyz Minister of Energy and Industry Doskul Bekmurzayev and Minister of Energy of Turkmenistan (now Deputy Prime Minister) Charymyrat Purchekov, the press service of the Kyrgyz Ministry of Energy and Industry said Wednesday.

During the official visit of Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov to Turkmenistan on June 27-28, leaders of the two countries have agreed on the supply of electricity to Kyrgyzstan.

According to the signed agreement, Turkmenistan will supply Kyrgyzstan with 501.9 million kWh of electricity from August to December 2021. Under the agreement, Turkmenistan has exported 19.2 million kWh of electricity until Aug. 9.

Negotiations are underway to export natural gas from Turkmenistan to Kyrgyzstan.
