Kyrgyzstan to construct eco-technological plant for recycling of solid household waste

Bishkek, March 29, 2024 / Kabar/. Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers - Head of the Presidential Administration Akylbek Zhaparov today took part in the ceremony of laying a capsule for the construction of an eco-technological plant for the production of electricity with the disposal of solid household waste in Bishkek.

In his speech Akylbek Zhaparov noted that this is a great event. The construction of this plant will bring many positive results, such as reducing the environmental load, generating electrical and thermal energy from waste combustion, and reducing municipal solid waste.

“Before choosing the Hunan Jiongxing company, we studied the experience of neighboring countries, carefully studied the experience and results achieved by the companies. The investment cost of the plant is about $100 million. When choosing this company, all aspects were taken into account. And, we can say that Kyrgyz-Chinese relations have reached the highest level of bilateral cooperation. Today we stand on the threshold of a big event. The construction of a plant for the processing and disposal of solid household waste has begun here today. Also, purification systems and sports facilities will be built here in parallel. We believe that construction will be completed next year. This facility is very important for us,” he said.

The head of the Cabinet of Ministers noted that there are more than 400 landfills in Kyrgyzstan. They currently store more than 16 million tons of garbage. “We have more than 100 waste processing enterprises, but their technologies are very old. Our priority is the construction of new waste processing plants in all regions and in two major cities of the country,” he assured.

Akylbek Zhaparov added that environmental issues have been acute in the capital in recent years. For two years, work has been underway to eliminate stationary sources of air pollution in the city, including work on gasification of residential areas, autonomous boilers have been switched to gas, environmentally friendly types of public transport have been purchased, and more than 600 thousand green trees have been planted as part of the Jashyl Muras initiative.
