Bishkek, March 25, 2022. / Kabar /. A new concept of social protection based on international standards will be developed in Kyrgyzstan, Minister of Labor, Social Welfare and Migration Kudaibergen Bazarbaev said during a meeting with UNICEF Representative in Kyrgyzstan Christine Jaulmes, WFP Country Director a.i. in Kyrgyzstan Ram Saravanamuttu and other representatives of UN agencies in the republic.
“The ministry has reached a sufficient level of targeting in the assignment and payment of all types of social benefits. But there are new challenges that carry risks for vulnerable layers of society (crises, pandemics, wars, natural disasters) of population, and the ministry needs to change methods of work towards adaptive social protection,” Bazarbaev noted.
He added that a new document will be developed after evaluation of the social protection system.
"Such an assessment has already been carried out or is currently underway in 18 countries, including Uzbekistan and Armenia. A map of social protection system elements will be formed, including national goals and strategies, the effectiveness of the existing system will be analyzed, and alternative reform options will be identified," the minister stressed.
During the discussion, the timeframe of the assessment was defined, and the tools to be used were presented.
