Bishkek, Sept. 20, 2024. / Kabar /. Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers - Minister of Water Resources, Agriculture and Processing Industry Bakyt Torobaev met with Secretary of the Party Committee of the General Administration of Customs of the People's Republic of China Yu Jianhua.
During the meeting, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Bakyt Torobaev noted that in recent years, the volume of trade between the two countries has increased significantly, which indicates not only the growth of trade, but also the convergence of positions in various areas.
"The construction of a customs warehouse near the Irkeshtam checkpoint on the Kyrgyz-Chinese state border and the Ulugchat customs zone on the Chinese side will be completed soon. This will increase the volume of cargo transportation from Kyrgyzstan to China. The main thing is to simplify customs procedures, which will facilitate the effective exchange of goods and services,” he emphasized.
Secretary of the Party Committee of the General Administration of Customs of China Yu Jianhua reported that in 2023, bilateral trade turnover reached a high level compared to 2022. The Chinese side expressed its readiness to import environmentally friendly products. Following the meeting, the parties agreed to export beans and wool from Kyrgyzstan to China.
The volume of bilateral trade in 2023 amounted to $20 billion, and for the period from January to July of this year it reached $11 billion.
Then, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Bakyt Torobaev met with Minister of Transport of the People's Republic of China Li Xiaopeng.
During the meeting, the parties discussed further improvement of the Torugart and Irkeshtam checkpoints on the Kyrgyz-Chinese state border, as well as the modernization of the infrastructure of the recently opened simplified checkpoint "Bedel" and the joint completion of the construction of the Barskoon-Uchturfan-Aksuu highway by 2027. The length of the road to the "Bedel" checkpoint from the Kyrgyz side is 152 km.
In addition, progress in the implementation of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway construction project was discussed, and it was noted that a trilateral commercial agreement is expected to be signed soon.
Following the meeting, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Bakyt Torobaev and Minister of Transport of China Li Xiaopeng agreed to increase the quota for trucks crossing the state border of the two countries by the end of this year. It is expected that an additional 40 thousand vehicles will be allowed to enter and exit from each side by the end of the year.
