Bishkek, March 15, 2022. / Kabar /. As part of the development of mountain tourism and mountaineering in Kyrgyzstan, the Ministry of Emergency Situations will create rescue team named Edelweiss, head of the ministry Boobek Azhikeyev told at a press conference at the Kabar Agency.
He said that the rescue teams will work according to international standards.
“We are currently working on all organizational issues and purchasing a helicopter for the needs of the team. In turn, the main base will be deployed in the Ala-Archa National Park,” he said.
In addition, the minister noted that the team will be selected on the basis of the International Rescue Squad "INSARAG" in an expanded format.
“In turn, mountain tourists and climbers, upon arrival in Kyrgyzstan, will have to take out international insurance, under which they are provided with qualified and prompt assistance in emergency situations,” Azhikeyev said.
For reference: INSARAG is a worldwide network of more than 90 countries and organizations under the auspices of the United Nations (UN). INSARAG deals with issues related to the conduct of search and rescue operations (SRP), meaning the definition of minimum international standards for search and rescue teams (SAR) and the methodology for international coordination in responding to earthquakes.
