Bishkek, Oct.1, 2019. /Kabar/. The issue of clean water and irrigation in Kyrgyzstan will be fully resolved by 2024, Director of the State Agency for Water Resources Kokumbek Tashtanaliyev told during the press conference at Kabar News Agency.
According to the director’s data, as part of the implementation of the state program, 31 irrigation facilities worth KGS 13.4 billion are planned to be put into operation by the end of 2023. Their capacity will amount to 26.8 thousand hectares of new irrigated lands. Also, 36 new water intakes are planned to be built.
“As of today, two water intakes have been put into operation, and 14 irrigation facilities are under construction. Six of them are financed from the republican budget, three are financed by China and one by the Arab Development Fund. The development of 20 irrigation projects has been completed, and 10 are still in the process,” Tashtanaliyev informed.
Second participant of the press conference, Director of the Department of Development of Drinking Water Supply and Sewerage under the Agency for Water Resources Askarbek Toktoshev said the state will solve the issue of providing clean drinking water to the population of 653 villages by 2024.
“There are 1,819 villages in the country, 533 of which have been provided with drinking water, and water supply facilities in 555 villages have been built in the 70s and 80s. To date, KGS 27 billion have been found to provide clean drinking water within the framework of loan agreements, but KGS 37 billion are needed to solve the problem. The rest of the money is being sought in this direction,” Toktoshev said.
