Bishkek, Sept. 08, 2018. /Kabar/. At the closing ceremony of the Third World Nomad Game, Kyrgyzstan will hand over a glacier water in a vessel (kookor) to Turkey, as the totem of the Games. This ritual is an alternative to the Olympic torch. The closing ceremony of the games will take place today, on Sept. 8, at the hippodrome in Cholpon-Ata, Issyk-Kul oblast.
“In the light of the fact that the next World Nomad Game are to be held in Turkey in 2020, during the closing ceremony there will be a symbolic ritual of moving the games to the host country”, First Vice Prime Minister Kubatbek Boronov told summing up the outcomes of the Third Nomad Games.
“It is symbolic that glacier water in a vessel (kookor) – the totem of the World Nomad Games – will be handed over to Turkey, as well as the book of the great winners”, Boronov said, explaining that it was not fortuitous that glacier water was chosen.
He said that one of the major problems of our time is that of fresh water. Kyrgyzstan attaches great importance to preserving environmental balance and water resources.
Boronov said that the ceremony of passing the games involves a particular ritual that starts with filling the vessel on a glacier. Afterwards, the vessel will be delivered along with the ethno-escort, to the central arena of the hippodrome, where the vessel filled with glacier water will be handed over with wishes of welfare and prosperity. This is for a reason, for water is rightfully considered a symbol of life. This ritual is an alternative to the Olympic torch and is equal in its effect and idea.
The First Vice Prime Minister added that while the theatrical performance at the opening ceremony of the games uncovered the philosophy of nomads, this theme will be continued at the closing ceremony, but with emphasis on our time. A bright and remarkable show with the participation of 500 artists, stuntmen, and sportsmen will be awaiting the guests of the event at the hippodrome.
