Bishkek, Aug. 25, 2023. /Kabar/. From 28 to 30 August, Bishkek will host the XXIX World Congress on Echinococcosis, which is being held for the first time in the Russian-speaking part of the world, parasitologist of the Department of State Sanitary and Epidemiological Surveillance of Kyrgyzstan Zhumagul Usubalieva told at a press conference.
According to her, the event will provide an opportunity for the exchange of experience, cooperation and improvement of relations between experts and professionals in this field.
She noted that the congress will discuss the unique problems associated with the emergence and spread of alveolar and cystic echinococcosis in a vast region from Eastern Europe to the Pacific Ocean.
In turn, Professor of the University of Zurich Paul Thorgerson said that more than 1 thousand cases of echinococcosis and more than 400 cases of alveococcosis are registered in Kyrgyzstan annually. “These are serious illnesses. The Congress is very relevant for the country, so that among specialists there is an exchange of views and effective methods of treatment,” said the professor.
More than 200 specialists from 23 countries of the world will come to the congress, these are countries such as Australia, Argentina, France, Germany, Estonia, Switzerland and others.
Vice rector of Kyrgyz Medical Academy Niyazbek Mamatov said that the congress participants will be able to learn about new methods of treatment, operations and diagnostics. He noted that a collection of congress materials will be published following the event.
