Kyrgyzstan to import electricity from Kazakhstan

Bishkek, Nov. 20, 2020 / Kabar /. In connection with the low water in the Toktogul reservoir, an agreement was signed with Kazakhstan on the supply of electricity to Kyrgyzstan, chairman of the country’s State Committee for Industry, Energy and Subsoil Use Zhyrgalbek Sagynbaev told at a press conference.

“Within the framework of the exchange of goods, since Sept. 21, 2020, electricity supplies from the Kazakhstan have been started and, as of Nov. 16, according to operational data, 300 million kWh of electricity have been supplied, he said.

In addition, Sagynbaev noted that negotiations are currently underway with Kazakhstan on additional imports of electricity in the amount of 600.0 million kWh in the 1st quarter of 2021, which will ensure uninterrupted and reliable passage of the upcoming autumn-winter season.

He added that there will be no rolling power outages in Kyrgyzstan in the current heating-winter period.
