Bishkek, Nov.20, 2024. /Kabar/. The Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture and Processing Industry of Kyrgyzstan and the Association of Corn Growers of the Kyrgyz Republic signed a memorandum of cooperation.
The purpose of the signed memorandum is to implement the works agreed by the parties to ensure the country's food security, the Kyrgyz Agriculture Ministry said.
The Association of Corn Growers of the Kyrgyz Republic commits itself that by 2026-2030, the gross harvest of corn will increase to 1 million tons, and the production of liquid fodder from corn and sorghum will increase to 2 million tons. These indicators will be achieved through the use of intensive technologies and the expansion of cultivated areas.
In the last two years, the Association has been engaged in the introduction of universal (for grain, hay, silage) culture of sorghum. Sorghum is a culture resistant to stressful conditions, drought-resistant, grows on unproductive and saline lands and gives a good harvest.
It also conducts work on the provision of liquid fodder in the mountainous regions of the republic, selecting seeds suitable for these regions and developing cultivation technology - Kochkor, Tyup, Dzhety-Oguz regionsm and in Talas Oblast is expanding corn and sorghum crops from year to year.
