Bishkek, Nov. 24, 2020 /Kabar/. The Bishkek Mayor's Office in cooperation with the Institute of Environmental Solutions public foundation is launching the Taza Aba (Clean Air) project.
"According to preliminary data, as of Nov. 24 air pollution in Bishkek exceeded last year's figures by 35-50%. In this connection, in order to understand what happens to the air, we will install 39 air quality control sensors. This is the minimum number of sensors combined into a single network, which will allow us to see the full picture in the agglomeration of the capital," the report says.
The city authorities also pointed out that all information will be published in an open environmental database and will be available to all citizens.
With the onset of the heating season, the air in Bishkek becomes dangerous to health.
In October, the air in the capital was harmful almost every second day. In the ranking of capitals with the most harmful air in 2019, Bishkek was on 16th place.
The main causes of air pollution in Bishkek are massive use of coal for heating, coal-fired cogeneration plant right in the heart of the city and a huge number of old vehicles.
