Bishkek, April 28 / Kabar /. Kyrgyz President Almazbek Atambayev discussed with Prime Minister of the country Sooronbai Zheenbekov and chief of his Office Sapar Isakov the beginning of the process of introducing biometric electronic passports in the country, the Kyrgyz President’s press service reports.
A new type of biometric e-passport of Kyrgyzstan is an identification document, and meets international standards. This is the first electronic passport in the Central Asian region that meets the requirements of the International Civil Aviation Organization and has adequate protection against counterfeits.
The Prime Minister said that the introduction of biometric passports in Kyrgyzstan is one of the basic conditions for the creation of e-government and the country's entry into the digital future through the implementation of the Taza Koom project initiated by the President. With the help of a biometric passport, citizens will have enhanced access to high-quality electronic public service, to all state and municipal services without the need to collect paper certificates.
The Prime Minister said that the citizens of Kyrgyzstan can receive biometric e-passport free of charge from May 1 to December 31, 2017.
President Atambayev stressed that Kyrgyzstan’s introduction of biometric electronic passports is a momentous event which has great importance in the creation of digital society in the country. This will allow achieving qualitatively new results in the work carried out in the country to ensure transparency of all processes, combating corruption, conducting clean and transparent elections, and ensuring security.
