Kyrgyzstan to lease 500 thsd hectares of land to its citizens for business

Bishkek, Jan. 20, 2022 . / Kabar / . In Kyrgyzstan, 500 thousand hectares of land will be leased to citizens for business, Minister of Agriculture of the country Askarbek Dzhanybekov said at a briefing in Bishkek on Thursday.

He noted that the ministry initiated two bills concerning pastures. The first bill on transformation of marginal lands passed the first reading. Now it has been submitted to deputies for consideration in the second reading.

"We plan to transfer about 500 thousand hectares of low-productive pastures to another category of land so that our farmers could get additional land for agricultural production," Dzhanybekov said.

He added that Kyrgyzstan has 1 million 268,000 ha of arable land and 500,000 more ha is planned to be added to that figure.

"Our land will increase and every Kyrgyzstani will be able to use this land for business, mainly related to perennial plantations," the minister said.

Further, the official informed that 75% of land of the State Fund of Agricultural Land has been transferred to the Ministry of Agriculture, but this does not mean that the ministry has taken the land, on the contrary, this way a more correct use will be built.

"Residents of our villages also have the opportunity to lease these lands," the minister concluded.
