Bishkek, May 29, 2020 / Kabar /. Kyrgyzstan will mark the World No Tobacco Day, which will be held under the auspices of the protection of youth, national employee of WHO in the Kyrgyz Republic Aliyna Altymysheva told at a press conference.

She stated that 8 million people die from exposure to tobacco in the world.

“World tobacco day is celebrated in the world annually on May 31, including in Kyrgyzstan. This year there will be a special day, because we will expose companies that involve young people in the use of tobacco products. Behind this big business, actually there is a big loss for humanity. We lose 8 million human lives every year due to cardiovascular diseases, diabetes mellitus, cancer and pulmonary diseases,” she said.

Altymysheva noted that the situation with smoking in Kyrgyzstan is not encouraging.

“Almost 70% of the adult population dies due to the four reasons that I mentioned. 50% are cardiovascular diseases. All diseases have a common risk factor - tobacco use,” she added.

The WHO spokeswoman explained why the youth came under the manipulation of tobacco companies. It is youth, children and women who are the vulnerable layer of the population in front of tobacco companies, she said.

Speaking about the methods of manipulation, she said that there was an advertisement for thin cigarettes in the hands of girls, then there were different flavors. There are also many star advertising companies, etc.

Gulshan Abdyldaeva, the chief specialist of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Kyrgyz Republic, added that there are many anti-smoking activities in educational institutions. This year, as part of the No Tobacco Day, online conferences among students, promotions, flash mobs and contests were held.
