Kyrgyzstan to organize trainings for female candidates for local councils deputies

Bishkek, March 3, 2021. / Kabar /. The Women Support Center Public Association in cooperation with the Central Election Commission (CEC) are holding in Dzhalal-Abad town a training session on "Strengthening the role of women leaders in electoral processes".

The trainings is taking place on March 2-3 and implemented by UNDP with the support of the Swiss Government, the press service of the Kyrgyz CEC said.

The trainings are aimed at increasing the political participation of women leaders, their preparation as candidates for local elections, increasing their capacity in the area of electoral law, the electoral process, as well as broad awareness of the law on reserving 30% of mandates for women in local councils.

Chairwoman of the Election Commission Nurzhan Shaildabekova informed the participants about the electoral process.

"When forming the lists of candidates for city councils, political parties must take into account the representation of no more than 70% of persons of the same gender, and the difference in the order of women and men in the lists of candidates nominated by a political party must not exceed two positions. For the election of deputies of local council, at least 30%t of the mandates of deputies of local councils are reserved for women," she said.

Two-day trainings for potential female candidates for local councils are conducted with a focus on in-depth study of the electoral legislation of the Kyrgyz Republic, international and national mechanisms of protection and promotion of women's political rights, women's leadership, public speaking, application of PR and communications, skills to make electoral platforms.

In order to effectively achieve the goal of the project, a Memorandum of Commitment and further cooperation will be signed between the Women Support Center Public Association and the participants of the trainings.
