Kyrgyzstan to spent over USD 10M for elections of President and MPs

Bishkek, Nov. 25, 2020. /Kabar/. Approximately KGS 853 million (about USD 10 million 59 thousand) will be spent for holding presidential and parliamentary elections in 2021, Acting Prime Minister of the Kyrgyz Republic, First Deputy Prime Minister Artem Novikov said on Wednesday at a meeting of the Parliament.

He noted these funds are not envisaged in the draft budget for 2021 as presidential elections in Kyrgyzstan will be early, and parliamentary elections were to be held on Oct. 4, 2020.

"We ask to take these points into account by the second reading," said Novikov and added the sources of funding will be reported.

Kyrgyzstan’s early presidential elections are set for Jan. 10, 2020.

On Oct. 22, then Acting President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Zhaparov signed a Law on postponing parliamentary elections in the country until spring 2021.

Earlier at an extraordinary meeting in Bishkek, Kyrgyz MPs voted for the decision to hold presidential and parliamentary elections only after the reform of the electoral system, which should end in spring.
