Bishkek, Dec. 17, 2020 / Kabar /. Kyrgyzstan will independently start developing the Jetim-Too iron ore deposit in Naryn Oblast, Chairman of the State Committee for Industry, Energy and Subsoil Use of the Kyrgyz Republic, Jyrgalbek Sagynbaev told reporters at Kabar News Agency.
He noted that it is planned to independently start the development of the field from 2021.
“This is the largest iron ore deposit in the world. It ranks second in terms of reserves. It contains about 3 billion tons of iron ore. We will be able to make sure that this project helps the country to get back on its feet,” he said.
Speaking in more detail about the plans, Jyrgalbek Sagynbaev noted that the project will necessarily include compliance with all environmental and technical standards.
“There are no glaciers or rivers. The project will include the construction of a railway so that vehicles that harm the environment and bring high costs will not pass there. The finished product - metal, will be exported. For this, it is planned to build a metallurgical plant,” he added.
Funds for the start of the project, Sagynbaev said, can be taken from the EDB or the Russian-Kyrgyz Development Fund. At the same time, he clarified that this will not go towards the government debt. This will be a project loan.
“Presumably, the start of the project may require USD 200-300 million,” he said.
