Bishkek, Dec.19, 2019. /Kabar/. Issuance of biometric general civil passports in Kyrgyzstan will begin in 2021, Chairman of the State Registration Service of Kyrgyzstan Almaz Mambetov said at the press conference at Kabar News Agency.
According to him, the issuance of passports of a new type is moving in connection with the lawsuits under the tender, which were launched in October 2018, and are going on to this day.
Mambetov assued the issue will be resolved literally this or next week.
The Service’s chairman said with his coming to office an agreement for the supply of passports of the Specimen 2005 was signed.
Meanwhile, he said that in 2021, as a technical assistance Kyrgyzstan will gain forms for new biometric passports in the amount of coverage of annual needs.
"Talks are under way on the supply of equipment for the production of documents. I think it is time to stop ordering documents in foreign countries. It is a great dependence to ask foreign countries to deliver these passports on time. Negotiations on the supply of equipment are underway. We are considering the form of either a public-private partnership, or it will be a big investment agreement, or leasing. Negotiations are underway with European and Japanese companies," he added.
Note that it was previously reported that biometric passports should have been issued in 2019.
