Kyrgyzstan, Turkey consider issue of providing ethnic Kyrgyz in Malatya with subsidized housing

Bishkek, Jan.20, 2020. /Kabar/. On Jan. 14-15, 2020 Ambassador of Kyrgyzstan to Turkey Kubanychbek Omuraliyev paid working visit to Turkey’s Malatya city, the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan said.

As part of the visit, the Kyrgyz ambassador’s meeting with Governor of Malatya Aidyn Barush took place.

At the meeting, the sides noted the need to expand trade, economic and investment cooperation between the two brotherly countries.

Also, Ambassador Omuraliyev asked Governor Aidyn Barush to provide subsidized housing for low-income ethnic Kyrgyz living in Malatya Province.

Kubanychbek Omuraliyev also met with Malatya Mayor Selahattin Gyurkan, where the need for close cooperation between sister cities Batken and Malatya as part of the development of Kyrgyzstan’s regions was noted.

"In order to perpetuate the memory of hero of the Manas Kyrgyz epic, Mayor Gyurkan said the park in Malatya will be named after Manas. Omuraliyev invited the mayor to visit Batken and Issyk-Kul Oblasts in order to develop bilateral cooperation and exchange experience.The ambassador also requested that ethnic Kyrgyz be employed in state bodies," the Foreign Ministry’s press service said.

Besides, Ambassador Omuraliyev met with ethnic Kyrgyz and Kyrgyzstanis residing in Malatya.

At the meeting with compatriots, the ambassador talked about the situation in Kyrgyzstan, and the Embassy's work on interaction with ethnic Kyrgyz and Kyrgyz citizens in Turkey.

Malatya is a large city in the Eastern Anatolia region of Turkey and the capital of Malatya Province. The city has been a human settlement for thousands of years.

The city saw rapid expansion in the 19th century, and by the end of the century it had around 5000 households, 50 mosques.

Until recently the city was home to departments of the Turkish Aeronautical Association, Turkish Hearths, and Turkish Red Crescent. In 2014 Malatya became a metropolitan municipality in Turkey, alongside 12 other cities, by a Turkish governmental law that was passed in 2012.

Following the 2014 Turkish local elections the new municipality officially took office. Today the city is generally considered to be a notable trade and industrial hub, as well as a cultural centre point thanks to the İnönü University that was established on Jan.28, 1975.
